One of the defining features of the show is that the places the Thornberrys travel are fairly detailed. After the introduction and opening music, a map of a general area of the world is shown (i.e. Central Africa or Indonesia) and a jump zoom goes into a more specific area, often showing a name of a village or a river. The show is also careful about the specific animals that Eliza interacts with and the portrayal of the Indigenous people the Thornberrys interact with in relation to the area they are visiting.

The Thornberry's traveled regularly to six of the seven major continents/regions:

  1. Africa
  2. Asia
  3. Europe
  4. South America
  5. North America
  6. Austral-Asia/Oceania
